In Italy 16 million laying hens in cages, between death and suffering: the new LAV survey – Be Careful ( Pictures with emotional impact)
LAV has released dramatic images of some farms in Northern Italy, where laying hens are forced to live in atrocious conditions.
It is easily indignant in front of a video posted on social networks in which an abused animal but all too often we animal but ignore it when it comes to the suffering from millions of specimens retained in intensive farming. Often these animals are doomed to live in a cage throughout their existence until they are transferred to a slaughterhouse.
Among the most dramatic situations, there is certainly that of laying hens locked up in skimpy cages e overcrowded for a couple of years, until those who raise them no longer consider them “productive” And send them to the slaughterhouse. In a country that defines itself as civil, this barbarism should not be allowed, yet only in Italia, they are well 16 million hens living in cages.
This was denounced by the new investigation by the Anti-Vivisection League (LAV) linked to the coalition “End The Cage Age”, Which shows the horrendous images of some farms in Northern Italy.

Laying hens normally live in cages of 2 square meters, in which each specimen has 600 square centimeters of space available, less than an A4 sheet, as specified in the dramatic film released by LAV. In this situation, they cannot even satisfy their most basic needs, since scratching on the ground to rise on a tree. In these cells, they are forced to live below stress continuously, in close contact with other individuals, even those who develop aggression due to dire conditions.
Many chickens do they hurt, develop lesions e diseases terrible, like egg retention which is fatal in no time. He also spread the red mite infections and those related to contact with excrement on eh bodies of deceased companions, which in some cases are not removed for days or even weeks. Sometimes the dead birds remain to lie on the eggs, as shown in the chilling image below.

In this Dante’s circle, some specimens develop cannibalism e plumophagia a behavior that leads hens to tear and tear feathers e penne. It is a completely oriented circle of suffering and death productivity, where animal welfare cannot exist in any form. Caged laying hens are living beings exploited as objects until they become useless and can be eliminated.
These birds also never see the sunlight, but only the artificial one of the long sheds in which they are imprisoned. A more horrendous fate than that of male chicks, chopped live millions because they are not productive. But fortunately, both of these forms of anachronistic exploitation are about to end.

The virtuous initiative “End The Cage Age” of European citizens, organized to put an end to the havoc of caged animals, has been widely successful and European Commission has moved for the abolition of prisons on farms starting in 2027, the same year in which in Italy it will no longer be possible to eliminate male chicks. By 2023, a law proposal from the EU Commission is expected linked to the transition that will lead to the abolition of cages.
It is essential that the political decision-makers of the individual countries embrace this initiative; for this reason, LAV asks the neighbor Minister of Agriculture and to the next Minister of Health that the abandonment of the cages is pursued “without reservations”. It is not acceptable that millions of animals exploited in the livestock industry must be condemned to a life of hardship and suffering before they become products for human consumption.
