Global animal welfare organization FOUR PAWS has successfully rescued and transferred a 20-year-old Ukrainian ‘restaurant bear’ to its BEAR SANCTUARY Domazhyr near Lviv in Western Ukraine on March 23rd. FOUR PAWS was working on rescuing the brown bear, named Vova, since last November, but his fate was a court matter prior to the outbreak of the war.

“It’s worrisome that so little is known about why Mexican wolf population growth is slowing,” said Michael Robinson, a senior conservation advocate at the Center for Biological Diversity in a statement. “I’m concerned that high pup mortality is part of the problem. Rather than putting pups into unrelated wolves’ dens, moms, dads and pups should all begin new lives in the wild together.”

“We are calling for a moratorium on wild horse roundups in Wyoming, pending an inquiry into disease outbreak and deaths at the BLM’s two holding facilities in the state,” said Suzanne Roy, Executive Director of the American Wild Horse Campaign (AWHC). “We are concerned about how crowded conditions and reported staffing shortages are impacting the welfare of the more than 3,000 wild horses incarcerated in BLM holding pens in the state.”
